Seve Ballesteros 1957-2011

Yesterday, the golf world lost an icon. Seve Ballesteros, fought until the very end but unfortunately lost his battle with brain cancer. His impact on the game of golf will remain for many years to come. He inspired some of the greatest players in the world to play golf professionally. His generosity and compassion put him right up there with some of the greatest people to ever live.

Seve grew up in Spain. He learned how to play the game of golf while playing on the beaches near his hometown. He turned professional in 1974 at the age of 16. He won his first major, The Open Championship in 1979, and went on to win four more for a total of five.

He may be best known for his match-play abilities. He had a competitive fire like no one had ever seen. He would beat an opponent into the ground and then take that player out to dinner afterwards.

He will be missed dearly, and his legacy will live on forever.
